Frequently asked Questions

WHAT IS HYPNOSIS?

Hypnosis is a natural, safe, and effective technique of relaxing your conscious mind to release your inner criticism and to open your subconscious and superconscious minds to change thought patterns, create a positive relationship with yourself, to explore your inner mind, and to access your spiritual guides / ancestors / higher self. HOW DO i feel when i’m being hypnotized?

“Most people describe hypnosis as a pleasant experience, during which they feel focused and absorbed in the hypnotic experience. [You] may feel more alert, more relaxed, more comfortable, or more peaceful.” - American Psychological Association.

“You usually feel calm and relaxed,… have heightened focus and concentration…” - Mayo Clinic

how does hypnosis work?

Hypnosis induces a person’s brainwave state to bypass the conscious mind to access the subconscious or a focused awareness without one’s inner criticism. Your brain is literally creating new neural pathways, strengthening them while releasing old unwanted ones.

From a neurological study by The Stanford University School of Medicine in 2016, when people were in hypnosis, they saw a decrease in activity in an area of the brain called the dorsal anterior cingulate, part of the brain’s salience network. “In hypnosis, you’re so absorbed that you’re not worrying about anything else.” There was an increase in connections between two other areas of the brain — the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex and the insula. This is the brain-body connection that helps the brain process and control what’s going on in the body. Therefore, your brain is primed to create the changes you are working towards. Their studies of hypnosis sessions were shown to be effective in lessening chronic pain, the pain of childbirth and other medical procedures; treating smoking addiction and post-traumatic stress disorder; and easing anxiety or phobias.

how many sessions do I need?

A minimum of 3 sessions is recommended. Typically 3-9 sessions, once every week or every other week. Once you have achieved your goals I suggest coming in for “tune ups” once in a while or right before an event that you made need support for to keep your subconscious mind working for you.

The amount of sessions depends on your goals and your receptivity to hypnosis. Some people experience immediate results after the first session, however like practice or creating a habit within the brain, reinforcement is needed. For most people, more than one is needed to reinforce the neural pathways.

A study by the American Health Magazine found that 93% of people in Hypnotherapy achieve success after 6 sessions, 72% with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy after 22 sessions, and 38% with Psychoanalysis after 600 sessions.

can anyone be hypnotized?

Everyone can be hypnotized because hypnosis is a naturally occurring state of relaxation. The average person experiences hypnosis at least twice a day. This happens when you become engrossed in a book / movie or when you drive as if on auto-pilot. If you are comfortable with meditation, deep prayer, daydreaming, etc., you may go into a hypnotic state quicker and deeper than others. With practice, anyone can relax and enter a deep hypnotic state as long as they are open to the experience.

WILL IT FEEL THE SAME REMOTELY IN ZOOM AS IN PERSON?

Having been in the client seat myself, there is absolutely no difference in effectiveness between in person or remote sessions. As Hypnosis relies on relaxation, an open mind, and language - these are all things that translate easily through the interwebs and even the phone! Sometimes remote can even be more effective than IRL as you can feel safe and comfortable in the privacy of your own space, and less distracted by new surroundings.

Historically, trance states have been in ancient cultures all around the world: “Sleeping” Healing Institutions in old Greece, Temples in Ancient Egypt, Shaivism a Hindu tradition worshiping Shiva, and Siberian Shamans.

The average person experiences hypnosis at least twice a day. This happens when you become engrossed in a book / movie or when you drive as if on auto-pilot. The experience feels very similar to meditation.

All hypnosis is self hypnosis. You are always in control. There is no “mind control.” Clinical hypnosis is not the same as “stage hypnosis” where seemingly random people do hilarious tricks for laughs.

Hypnosis achieved formal recognition by the American Medical Association in 1958 and The American Psychology Association (APA) has declared most clinicians now agree hypnotherapy can be a powerful, effective therapeutic technique.

From the American Psychological Association:

  • Misconception 1: The person being hypnotized will be under the control of the hypnotist, and can be made to do or say anything the hypnotist wants.
Fact 1: This is not true. No matter how deeply hypnotized you become, you will remain in control throughout the session. You cannot be made to do anything you do not want to do, or anything that you are uncomfortable doing.

  • Misconception 2: Hypnosis is something that is done to people, rather than something that they can do for themselves.
Fact 2: This is not true. Hypnosis is a skill you can learn. It is a tool you can use to help yourself feel better.

  • Misconception 3: People become trapped in hypnosis and cannot “come out” of it when they want to.
Fact 3: This is not true. People can end hypnosis whenever they want.

  • Misconception 4: People have to be very “hypnotizable” or “suggestible” or “gullible” for hypnosis to work.
Fact 4: This is not true. Research has indicated that the vast majority of people can benefit from hypnosis. Furthermore, being hypnotizable or choosing to be responsive to suggestions means only that you have the ability to use hypnosis effectively. It is not at all related to being gullible or weak-willed.

  • Misconception 5: During hypnosis, people are unconscious.
Fact 5: This is not true. During hypnosis, people are not asleep or unconscious. Although they may feel very relaxed, they are active participants in the hypnosis session.
